Menopause and hormonal balance retreats for women rewriting midlife in 2026

Menopause may be challenging but there are retreats to help with night sweats, mood swings and libido loss, says writer Cathy Wood

The menopause can catch us by surprise.  One minute we’re enjoying life, the next navigating unwelcome and unnerving symptoms like brain fog, insomnia, lack of sexual enjoyment, poor concentration and changes in our mental wellbeing which can cause anxiety and depression.

While no two women experience perimenopause or menopausal symptoms in the same way, evidence suggests 60 to 85 per cent of all women find symptoms so unmanageable they seek medical help. Many find their concerns are not understood and their needs not met.

That’s where retreats for peri-menopausal women and menopause retreats come in. These are wide-ranging in approach and speciality and, while each offers a different focus, all help manage and relieve symptoms in gentle, supportive settings.

Why are menopause and hormone retreats on the rise?

Menopause brings with it significant physical and mental challenges, including night sweats, which impact on our ability to get a good night’s sleep, mood changes, brain freeze or fog (memory issues and lack of concentration), fatigue, joint pain, migraines and palpitations.

On average, women experience seven symptoms during their menopausal journey. =

Many women navigate these alone, not sharing them with friends, partners, colleagues or the medical profession fearing they might be dismissed or ridiculed.  Or they seek help and feel disappointed at the lack of understanding of the impact symptoms have on day-to-day life.

The growth in women’s health specialists, better perimenopausal support and a greater recognition of the part nutrition plays for midlife women has led to retreats which look at specific symptoms of the menopause, like sleep and hot flush management, or hormone balance, as well as those offering menopause wellness.

Women’s symptoms of perimenopause or the menopause often come at different stages of a woman’s life and they’re equally intrusive whether as a busy working mum, juggling work and child commitments, or later in life when we’re looking for a greater understanding of how our bodies change as we age.  Retreats match our own experience of the menopause and are different for all – they can be tailored and individual.

What happens on a menopause and hormonal health retreat?

On a menopause and hormonal health retreat you’ll be assessed on arrival by a team including doctors, nutritionists and women’s health specialists.

Together they’ll work to find what support you’re most in need of – this could include dietary advice, non-hormonal therapies, breathwork, restorative yoga and mindfulness.

A key part of any menopause and hormonal health retreat is spending time with other women and to share common experiences in a safe, supportive environment.

How can retreats help women be more in control of midlife?

Understanding how the body changes and why we react in different ways is key to finding our way through the menopause. Often, it’s about stepping away from the pressures of daily life and spending time with women’s health specialists who have the expertise to tailor a plan which balances personal and home needs.

Learning ways to strengthen bone density and the importance of staying active during peri and menopausal years helps make symptoms more manageable. Being in a relaxed environment, learning about nutrition, improving mind and body approaches and allowing a midlife reset will all contribute to managing and regulating the menopause transition.

The power of peer-to-peer support, where other women truly understand the way your body changes and the physical and mental impact this has, is a key, restorative, part of any retreat.

Where are the best menopause and hormonal health retreats?

Over the years, the team at The Global Retreat Company have reviewed many menopause and hormonal health retreats - here are some of our favourites:

The Nest, England

Many approach the menopausal years with dread but the team at The Nest, close to Porthtowan beach on Cornwall’s stunning South West Coast Path, embrace it.

The two-, three- or four-night Second Spring retreat encourages peri-menopausal and menopausal women to see this time as one of renewal and growth.

Accommodation is a luxury cabin tucked away in its own woodland with views out to sea. Available year-round, for one woman, per retreat, only.

Les Marguerites, France

This family-run, 200-year old, lovingly restored mansion in the medieval village of Alet-les-Bains, Aude in the South of France, welcomes guests as if one of their own.

The four-night Women’s Midlife Wellness Retreat helps guide women towards a better menopausal life through self-reflection, guidance and conversation as well as demonstrating how nutritional meals aid menopausal symptoms. Retreat size is limited to six.

Preidlhof, Italy

Preidlhof, in the northern most part of Italy, is also family-run. We like the seven-night Women’s Retreat Menopause as it encourages guests to connect with themselves as they approach, or reach, mid-life.

As well as medical consultations and healing massage, this retreat includes sleep tracking, fitness classes and the chance to walk, hike or bike in the nearby Texel Group National Park - known for its thick pine forests and sun-lit meadows.

The resort, which has a yoga pavilion and 14 swimming and whirlpools, believes the quiet beauty of nature leads to inner peace and joy.

Park Igls Medical Spa Resort, Austria

This well-known spa, at the foot of the Patcherkofel mountain, host to the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics, is found in Igls, south of Innsbruck, Austria.

Popular in winter and summer, we like the year-round, Meno Chance seven-night programme as it encourages participants to ‘love your age’.

Included in this retreat are medical examinations, lab work, including a specific ‘menopause’ check, personal training sessions, massages and shiatsu.

Park Igls prides itself on creating made-to-measure programmes, which focus on looking forward, rather than back.
