Psychedelic therapy and emotional healing retreats -transformative journeys for 2026

Rediscover your optimum health with psychedlic therapy, suggests Christine Fieldhouse, Retreat Editor of The Global Retreat Company

Our mental health has never been of greater concern and with cases of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), anxiety, depression and burnout on the rise, we’re turning to psychedelic therapy as a means to getting ourselves back to optimum emotional health.

What is psychedelic-assisted therapy?

This type of therapy combines the use of psychedelics (a subclass of hallucinogenic drugs, such as psilocybin, LSD, MDMA and ketamine) and psychotherapy for the treatment of PTSD and treatment-resistant depression.

What are the potential benefits and risks?

This treatment can yield fast and long-lasting improvements in people who have been battling mental health issues for years, if not decades.

Memories and emotions that have been buried deep inside will emerge to be processed as trauma release occurs. The treatment could also promote neuroplasticity in our brains, rewiring it to make us more positive and happier.

However, researchers have found there are risks, and they include mood swings, a worsening of psychosis and suicidal behaviour.

For example, psilocybin isn’t safe for people with psychotic conditions like schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or severe forms of bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder.

Where can you experience psychedelic and emotional healing retreats?

We have tried and tested our retreats - here are some that made an impression on us:

One of the most successful and safe psychedelic retreats is Beckley Retreats which run set-date psilocybin retreats in The Netherlands and Jamaica.

These retreats combine the latest scientific research with ancient wisdom to take you on a psychedelic journey from which to emerge a better, happier version of yourself.

Their five-night psychedelic healing retreats feature two psilocybin ceremonies led by skilled facilitators at three locations: at Hilversum near Amsterdam and at Achterhoek in eastern Netherlands, and on an ex-plantation estate at Trelawny near Wakefield, just 45 minutes from Montego Bay in Jamaica.

These programmes include 10 weeks of virtual pre- and post-retreat support – including integration and after-care.

The three phases are Prepare, Immerse and Integrate. The Prepare phase is a four-week virtual programme that lays the foundation for the real-world retreat with group sessions, personalised support and guided activities to foster connections among participants.

During the Immerse phase, a five-night retreat, you participate in two psilocybin ceremonies, yoga, breathwork, meditation and other transformational practices, facilitated by a supportive team of experts.

The Integrate phase is a six-week virtual post-retreat programme designed to help you sustain and integrate the retreat experience. It includes group sessions, daily practices, and evidence-based techniques to support lasting transformation.

Elsewhere, in Portugal, Paraiso Escondido – a wellness retreat in the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina national park, occasionally offers a psilocybin retreat.

These five-night retreats offer the chance to blend ancient wisdom and modern science. You’ll have two psilocybin ceremonies, yoga, meditation, sound healing and Alentejo cuisine.

They’re for anyone who wants a personal breakthrough, mental clarity and emotional healing.
