Moments of utter calm at Danena Ortigia in Sicily

Harriet Poland writes:

The beauty of Danena Ortigia is its location. In the heart of ancient Ortigia, you can walk out of your door and find some of the rarest treasures of the world. One afternoon we stepped out of the sun into the cool of the Cathedral of Syracuse, the Catholic heart of the city. This beautiful church was built on the original Greek temple of Athena, and the columns still form part of the space. We sat and listened to the choir rehearse, bathed in a golden light coming through the high windows. Utter peace.
